November 5 Incident Notification, Student Vigilance Leads to Arrests

November 5, 2022

Dear Gonzaga Community,

Tonight, at approximately 7 p.m., three individuals were involved with placing hate graffiti on The Wall located northwest of Crosby similar to the incident early last week. Students alerted us to this fact quickly, and within a half hour our Physical Plant colleagues painted over the offensive material.

Our campus security reviewed the footage, and within the hour had identified two individuals. Spokane Police officers were quickly on the scene and two individuals were arrested.

We appreciate the vigilance of those students who brought this to our attention. We will update you with any relevant information once it becomes available but wanted you to be aware of this incident and the follow-up that is occurring. Thank you for working together to keep our campus community safe.

Sincere regards,

Kent Porterfield
Vice Provost for Student Affairs
