MSG Roy L. Silva is a native of Rio Grande City, Texas, and the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Gonzaga ROTC Program. MSG Silva enlisted into the United States Army in 2003, immediately after graduating high school, as a M1 Abrams Armor Crewmember. He conducted One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Knox, KY under Charlie Company, 2-81 Armor Battalion.

His assignments include: Ray Barracks, Friedberg, Germany (2004-2007); Fort Irwin, CA (2007-2009); Rose Barracks, Vilseck, Germany (2010-2013), Sacramento, California (2014-2017), Fort Stewart, GA (2017-2020), Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA (2021-2023); Spokane, WA (2023-Present)

His duty positions include: Tank Driver, Loader, and Gunner (C Co. 2-37th AR), Gunner and Tank Commander (G Trp. 2-11th ACR), Rifle Squad Leader and MGS Stryker Commander (B Trp. 1-2 SCR), Army Recruiter (Sacramento Valley Recruiting Company), Tank Platoon Sergeant, Tank Company First Sergeant, and Assistant Operations Sergeant (B Co., A Co., HHC 1-64 AR), Armor Observer/Coach/Trainer (C Team 2-357 IN), Cavalry and Headquarters Troop First Sergeant (A Trp. and HHT 1-14 CAV), Senior Military Science Instructor (Gonzaga University ROTC)

He has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Regionally Aligned Forces-Korea.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (one oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device, Army Commendation Medal (one silver oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (four oak leaf clusters), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, NATO-ISAF medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and German Armed Forces Weapons Qualification Badge (Silver), and the Honorary Order of Saint George Bronze Medallion.

His military education includes Warrior Leaders Course, Armor Advanced Leaders Course, Army Recruiter Course, Maneuver Senior Leaders Course, Sexual Harassment and Assault Response Program Course, Master Leaders Course, Pre-Command/First Sergeant Course.

MSG Silva is married to his wife, Joana, and they share one son.
